Art Crush LA is proud to present From the Perspective of a Canoe, the award-winning play by award-winning Los Angeles playwright Amy Dellagiarino, opening September 12 at hi5.agency Studios in Pasadena.
Dellagiarino has quickly become one of Southern California's most acclaimed playwrights. Her work has been recognized by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, Austin Film Festival, and Stage Raw for its emotionally rich storytelling and nuanced exploration of contemporary life. From the Perspective of a Canoe received the 2021 Austin Film Festival Playwriting Award and is a remarkable example of the empathy and complexity that define her work.
Set during a 4th of July family barbecue following a devastating grocery store shooting, the play explores something rarely examined: not simply how tragedy changes those directly affected, but how the rest of us consume, interpret, and construct stories around unimaginable events. As each character's perspective unfolds, audiences are challenged to reconsider the assumptions they make about strangers and the role they play as consumers of tragedy in an era shaped by headlines, social media, and true crime.
