Write Act Rep Extends PREZ Starring Leslie A Jones Image

WRITE ACT REP announces the extension of PREZ - The Lester Young Story, a solo show written by playwright Willard Manus, in celebration of Black History Month, and returns to Los Angeles, as part of a Festival Series at Write Act Rep's Brickhouse Theatre called THREE BY WILL IN REP. The Series includes two World Premiere's along with the return of the acclaimed PREZ, which chronicles the unique life of jazzman Lester Young, featuring Leslie A. Jones. The intimate drama is produced by John Lant II, and will be directed by Daniel E. Keough. The show opened February 4th, 2018. All performances for PREZ will be on Sunday at 2PM, and has extended through April 29th, 2018, as part of the three production Series, "Three By Will In Rep"

PREZ had its world premiere in Feb. 2016 at Chromolume Theatre in Culver City, where it ran for two months and was hailed by critics and audiences alike. The play, which is set in a 1959 hotel room in Paris, paints an intimate portrait of Lester Young, a unique jazzman whose warm, lyrical style brought him fame, first with the Count Basie band, then with the likes of Nat 'King' Cole, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, and his best friend and alter ego, Billie Holiday.

Leslie A. Jones is an actor/musician who has appeared in two previous plays by Willard Manus: BRIDGE and BIRD LIVES! He won an NAACP Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Randall in Matthew Witten's "Washington Square Moves." He recurred on TV's "Beverly Hills, 90212" and has appeared in numerous independent films. His band, "Right Hand Rule," can be heard on iTunes, com, Amazon.com and cdbaby.com. He plays saxophone, flute, percussion, and sings as well.

Willard Manus has had numerous plays produced in L.A. and elsewhere. FRANK AND AVA won a best-play award at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival and has been turned into a feature film.

PREZ is running at the Brickhouse Theatre in repertory, called THREE BY WILL IN REP with two new plays by Manus, THEIR FINEST HOUR: CHURCHILL AND MURROW and THE WICKED, WICKED Mae West.
