Vaporized Tivol Plays Next In LA Phil's Green Umbrella Series 3/15

By:

Conductor Benjamin Shwartz leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group in a program of music by Unsuk Chin and Anders Hillborg, at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tuesday, March 15, at 8 p.m. Two works by Chin - Allegro ma non troppo for solo percussion and electronics, and Cantatrix Sopranica - bookend the U.S. premiere of Hillborg's Vaporized Tivoli. Also on the program is Hillborg's Kongsgaard Variations (for string quartet). Sopranos Kiera Duffy and Audrey Luna, and male soprano Michael Maniaci perform in Cantatrix Sopranica, a piece that first premiered in 2006 as part of the Green Umbrella series. LA Phil Principal Timpanist Joseph Pereira is the soloist in Allegro ma non troppo.

The concert is a part of the LA Phil's groundbreaking Green Umbrella new music series, a favorite of adventurous, open-minded and curious music lovers. The series, with a more-than-20-year history, offers two more events during the 2010/11 season.

Remaining concerts for the 2010/11 Green Umbrella series are: Thomas Adès in a dual role, conducting the New Music Group and performing at the piano in an Aspects of Adès concert with mezzo-soprano Katalin Károlyi and presenting the LA Phil-commissioned world premiere of a new work by Francisco Coll (April 5, 2011); and LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams leading the New Music Group, violinist Jennifer Koh and electric guitarist Steven Mackey in a program featuring LA Phil-commissioned world premieres by Missy Mazzoli, Gabriel Kahane and Andrew Norman and the West Coast premiere of Mackey's Four Iconoclastic Episodes (May 24, 2011).
