Student Blog: How Has It Been So Far?

College is such an exciting and monumental time and often people who love you most want to know all about it! In an effort to thank them for asking, I try to offer a holistic view of the year so far. However, I often struggle with even remembering all that I have done or how the year has been! Here are some things I have implemented so I can try and remember as much of college as possible.

The first thing is to start a gratitude journal. Every day, right before bed, I think of three things that I am most grateful for. Sometimes this is quite easy, like if I have an audition that goes well or I score well on a test. Other times, I struggle to think of even two good things. No matter the difficulty, maintaining a gratitude journal pushes you to look at each day optimistically, even if it was a rough one. Then, someday you can look back and read all that you have accomplished. I even enjoy looking back on those days when I struggle with gratitude because I can see how every obstacle promotes growth in some way. Or maybe I later realized there was another opportunity in store for me.

Another thing I have attempted to start doing is creating TikToks or short videos of random days. Like the gratitude journal, it pushes me to look for little, wonderful moments in life. If you start posting these, you might be surprised at how much people love learning about your path through college! Start by taking little videos of random moments from your day and then compile them together. You may be surprised by all that you conquered in one day!

The final thing may seem obvious, or irrelevant, but my suggestion is to reach out to those who love you more often. Give them a call, a text, or FaceTime and just catch up. This way, you will not have to remember all that you have done through a whole semester, it may just be within a week! If people are asking about your experiences in college, they probably really care to hear. So, be more frequent with communicating and with checking up on them too!
