Steve Nash Showdown this Sunday at the Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center, 7/14

The inaugural Steve Nash Foundation Showdown LA, a competitive pick-up-style charity soccer match will 'kick-off' this Sunday, July 14 at the Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center (located 5 minutes from STAPLES Center). The game will feature two teams comprised of NBA players and international soccer stars including Nash, Klay Thompson (NBA Golden State Warriors), Jared Dudley (Los Angeles Clippers), Robbie Keane (FA Ireland/LA Galaxy), Carlo Cudicini (LA Galaxy), Robbie Rogers (LA Galaxy), John O'Brien (former U.S. National Team member and Chivas USA player), Kyle Martino (retired LA Galaxy player and current soccer color analyst) and other NBA and international soccer stars. Additional participants will be announced in the coming days leading up to Sunday's free event and FanFest.

Showdown is a fast-paced, competitive, and free to the public, pick-up style soccer match featuring NBA and professional soccer players, joining forces to support the Steve Nash Foundation's work to benefit underserved children. Following the match, Nash, fellow players, friends and fans will gather for Showdown After Hours, a cocktail party and live auction taking place at the Target Terrace at L.A. LIVE. All proceeds from ticket, auction, and merchandise sales will benefit the Steve Nash Foundation's work to improve outcomes in child welfare. Showdown will be televised by Time Warner Cable this summer in markets including California, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas and will air in both English and Spanish, beginning with broadcasts tonight, July 9th, of the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown NYC (held June 26, 2013). The specials will feature game highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews with the athletes, all in support of Steve's community work through the Steve Nash Foundation.

Showdown LA is sponsored by AXS.TV, Vita Coco, Major League Soccer, BlackBerry, Kappa USA, WAT-AAH!, Jawbone , Under Armour, and ESPNLA 710. Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Time Warner Cable Deportes and Time Warner Cable SportsChannels across the country will televise the event in English and Spanish this summer and Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux will present an award to the Most Valuable Player of the game.

Recently appearing in the sixth annual NYC match, which took place June 26, were such notables as Sacha Kljestan(US National Soccer Team/Anderlecht), Joakim Noah (Chicago Bulls), Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina), Oguchi Onyewu(US National Soccer Team/Malaga CF), Emmerson Boyce (Wigan), Stuart Holden (US National Soccer Team/Bolton), Massimo Ambrosini (AC Milan/Fiorentina), Marco Belinelli (Chicago Bulls), Mikel Alonso (Liga Veteran), Rod Fanni (Olympique de Marseille), and Sammy Amoebi (Newcastle).
