STAGE TUBE: Cast of HAIRSPRAY Tour Says 'Goodbye'

By:

BWW Exclusive: After 7 years on the road, the National Tour of the Tony® Award-winning hit broadway musical HAIRSPRAY played its final show in Riverside, CA over the weekend of April 24-25, 2010. In a video exclusively produced for BroadwayWorld, cast member Kyle Kleiboeker (Fender) gives us an inside look backstage for a behind-the-scenes peek at how this cast prepares for the show. Kleiboeker previously produced a popular online video series when he was a cast member of the national touring company of THE WEDDING SINGER.

The original Broadway production which starred Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Glee's Matthew Morrison, won eight 2003 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and enjoyed an incredible six-year run. The 2007 West End production of HAIRSPRAY was nominated for a record-breaking 11 Olivier Awards and nabbed four, including the top category Best New Musical, and also won Best New Musical in all of Britain’s other top awards programs, including the Evening Standard, Critic’s Circle and Whatsonstage Awards. Later a new film adaptation was produced starring John Travolta and Zac Efron.

HAIRSPRAY is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, and features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. HAIRSPRAY features an original score by Academy® Award-nominated Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. This production of HAIRSPRAY is based on Jack O’Brien’s original direction and Jerry Mitchell’s original choreography, recreated by Matt Lenz and Danny James Austin, respectively.

The final cast of HAIRSPRAY includes Danielle Arci, Ken Arpino, TeAnna Berry, Daniel Bentley, Marsena Eunice Bowers, Adam Cassel, Andrea Collier, Richard Crandle, Willie Dee, Bianca Denis, Debra Thais Evans, Mark A. Harmon, Jorie Janeway, Colleen Kazemek, Mike Kelton, Kyle Kleiboeker, Theo Lencicki, Greg London, Benjamin J. McHugh, Shannon Mullen, Angie Perez, Amber Rees, Ryan Rubek, Charles Sarkioglu, Keleen Snowgren, Erin Sullivan, Evan Walker, Shavanna Calder, Lindsey Clayton.
