Rogue Machine Brings DAYTONA to Los Angeles

Rogue Machine Opens the American Premiere of "DAYTONA" on 9/9 in Los Angeles Written by Oliver Cotton Haunting and humorous, Daytona is a play with two love stories at its heart. Joe and Elli were childhood friends who survived the Holocaust. They found each other, after the war, and have been married almost 50 years now and living in New York. The couple created an active world for themselves to forget the past...until the day an unexpected visitor arrives, fracturing the relationship that took a lifetime to build. How do we forgive ourselves, and others, and live with the parts of our past that are better forgotten?

Elina de Santos directs an award-winning cast which includes Richard Fancy, Sharon Shayne, and George Wyner. After having a celebrated run in London's West End, the play is slated to run at Rogue Machine for eight weeks. Performances are at 8:30pm on Saturdays & Mondays, and at 3:00pm on Sundays through October 30, 2017 (no performances on Monday, September 25th & October 2nd). Playwright Oliver Cotton wrote Wet Weather Cover (King's Head & Arts Theatre, London), The Incredible Journey of Sir Francis Younghusband, The Enoch Show (The Royal Court) and Man Falling Down (Shakespeare's Globe). His acting career includes at least forty productions at the National Theatre, many of which were produced during the time when Sir Laurence Olivier was its artistic director, and numerous others at The Royal Court and RSC. He is still recognized for his roll as Cesare Borgia in the BBC's 1981 drama series The Borgias.

Director Elina de Santos Director has helmed five world premieres at Rogue Machine; In The Valley Of The Shadow by Katherine Cortez (winner of the Diversity in American Theatre Award in the 2017 LA Fringe), Dirty Filthy Love Story, by Rob Mersola, Razorback by the multi-award winning resident playwright, John Pollono, Nice Things by the twice published playwright Vince Melocchi, and Yard Sale Signs by Jennie Webb (Women in Theatre Red Carpet Award). A resident director at Pacific Resident Theatre, Elina has directed Tennessee Williams', Orpheus Descending (garnering Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards for Performance, Direction, and Production), the LA premiere of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance, Odets' Rocket to the Moon (LADCC Direction nominee), and Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Elina is the recipient of the LADCC Career Achievement Award in Directing. Award winning cast includes Richard Fancy (Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman - LADCC and Ovation Award nominations; Uncle Morty in Awake and Sing - LADCC Award). TV: Mr. Lippman on Seinfeld, NCIS, Disney's The Middle, and Adult Swim insanity Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell), Sharon Shayne ("Queen of Spades" and "The Next Cassavetes"), and George Wyner (LA stage debut with Henry Fonda in The Trial of A. Lincoln, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial; Film: Coen brothers' best-picture nominee "A Serious Man," as Rabbi Nachtner, Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs," as Colonel Sandurz, and "To Be or Not To Be." Among other dozens of film credits are the classic "Fletch" and "Fletch Lives," "Devil's Advocate," and "Trouble with the Curve." Guest starred on over 150 TV shows, and has been a series regular on nine with six seasons as Deputy D.A. Irwin Bernstein on Hill Street Blues). Rogue Machine's production team includes John Perrin Flynn (Producer), Hillary Bauman (Scenic Design), Leigh Allen (Lighting Design), Christopher Moscatiello (Sound Design), Kate Bergh (Costume Design), Janet Roston (Choreography).

Rogue Machine Theatre recently received the Polly Warfield Award for Outstanding Season from the LA Drama Critics Circle, and is the only theatre company to be given this award twice in the past sixteen years. KCRW (Best Theatre 2016) was another highlight of last season as well as receiving a Shubert Foundation grant, awarded to select theatre organizations for their artistic achievement, administrative strength, and fiscal stability along with company's development of new work and other significant contributions to the field of professional theatre in the United States. A recipient of the American Theatre Wing's 2014 National Theatre Company Grant, given only to 12 theatre companies in the country, Rogue Machine (BEST PRODUCTION for three years - Ovation, LADCC Awards) presents plays that are new to Los Angeles, and the company has garnered recognition for their work in upwards of 75 awards and nominations.

DAYTONA opens at 8:30pm on September 9th and runs Saturdays and Mondays at 8:30pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm through October 30, 2017 (no performances on Monday Sept. 25th & Oct. 2nd). Monday, September 11, 8:30pm is Pay-What-You-Want ($5 minimum) at the door starting at 7:30pm before that performance. Availability is limited.
