Redcat Announces Fall 2010 Season of Contemporary Visual, Performing & Media Art

Today Executive Director Mark Murphy and Gallery Director Clara Kim announced REDCAT's Fall 2010 Season. Kicking off on September 16, 2010 with projects in both the theater and gallery, REDCAT gathers artists of diverse backgrounds and disciplines from around the world, encouraging exploration and discovery among its artists as well as its patrons. The season opening features a world premiere by legendary Indonesian choreographer Sardono W. Kusumo in collaboration with renowned lighting designer Jennifer Tipton; and the Los Angeles debut presentation of two pioneers of video art in China, Zhang Peili and Zhu Jia.
"We are launching our most international and daring program yet," remarks Mark Murphy, Executive Director of REDCAT. "The work embodies the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration that is the core of our mission, including new premieres and collaborations that celebrate the inventive partnership of great creative minds. We treasure artistic integrity and understand the importance of dialogue and exchange, particularly in challenging times."
Keeping its ticket prices low and gallery events free, REDCAT hopes to encourage visitors to come often and bring friends. A recently added membership program allows REDCAT Members to save 20% on ticket prices as well as receive other benefits throughout the year. REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater) is an interdisciplinary contemporary arts center for innovative visual, performing and media arts located in downtown Los Angeles inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex. Through performances, exhibitions, screenings, and literary events, REDCAT introduces diverse audiences, students and artists to the most influential developments in the arts from around the world, and gives artists in this region the creative support they need to achieve national and international stature. General admission tickets to all REDCAT events are on sale now through the box office, by phone at 213 237-2800, and online at redcat.org. The box office, located at the corner of 2nd and Hope Streets, is open Tuesday-Saturday from noon until 6pm and 2 hours prior to any performance.
