Photo Flash: In Rehearsal for El Teatro Campesino's POPOL VUH: HEART OF HEAVEN at Grand Park
Center Theatre Group and acclaimed Chicano theatre company El Teatro Campesino have collaborated to present POPOL VUH: HEART OF HEAVEN, a visual treat for the entire family for two performances only on October 10 and 11, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. in Grand Park, downtown Los Angeles. Directed by ETC's Producing Artistic Director Kinan Valdez, 'POPOL VUH' is a vibrant celebration of life which brings together families and communities. Los Angeles serves as the stage for a production which reaches across cultures and generations.
Through the use of towering puppetry, music and dance, 'POPOL VUH' tells the Mayan creation myth with an L.A. twist. Presented in three languages -- Spanish, English and Quiché -- the show is a culmination of a year-long process of puppet-making, performance and music workshops held in East Los Angeles. The cast of the show is almost entirely comprised of community members, and includes a number of multi-generation families.
Performances are free but reservations are recommended. They can be made by visiting www.CenterTheatreGroup.org/PopolVuh. Audience members are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring blankets, pillows or low chairs.
