The American Premiere of "The Imaginary Life of the Street Sweeper, August G.," opened at Josefina López's ("Real Women Have Curves") Casa 0101 Theater on Friday, April 20, 2012 and runs through May 13. Pulitzer Prize Winning Playwright, Nilo Cruz ("Anna in the Tropics") attended the opening night performance. Casa 0101 Theater presents the American Premiere of "The Imaginary Life of the Street Sweeper, August G.," written by Armand Gatti, translated into English and directed by Emmanuel Deleage, at the new Casa 0101 Theater, 2102 E. First Street (at Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m., April 20 - May 13, 2012.

The story recounts the life of August G., the author's father, a World War I veteran and street sweeper, destined by fate to a meaningless existence. As a marathon of memories flash before his eyes, he travels through time and space for one last rendezvous with his friends and enemies.

The play features a cast of 31 actors led by Serafín Falcón as August G., 46, a street sweeper who receives a blow to the head while striking for better working conditions. The production also features live music and video projections. The play originally premiered in France in 1962 in French; this production of the play in English, and is the first to be presented in the United States. The production will coincide with an art exhibit entitled "Revolutionary Visions," curated by Lilia Ramirez and featuring mixed media and experimental contemporary photography.

Tickets are $20 for General Admission, $17 for Students, Seniors and Groups of 10 or more, and $15 for Boyle Heights residents with identification.
