Parson's Nose Closes Season with LITTLE SOPHIE'S MISFORTUNES, 4/12-13

By:

Parson's Nose Theater (PNT) will conclude their 2013-14 Season next month with a Readers' Theater Series performance of Little Sophie's Misfortunes by Comtesse de Ségur.

"Little Sophie's Misfortunes is a translation and adaptation for theater of a novel written in 1858 by Russian-born, Sofiya Rostopchina, Comtesse de Ségur," says Artistic Director, Lance Davis. "We've always loved naughty girls and boys. But even younger than Betty Rizzo, younger than The Bad Seed, Pippi Longstocking, and Becky Thatcher was Little Sophie. At the tender age of five or six she showed a sense of willfulness that Attila might envy.

Interestingly, the Comtesse's stories are closer to Roald Dahl than most. Little Sophie always promises to obey her mother, but somehow her naughty twin takes over and each activity ends in disaster. Her dolly suffers burnt hair, missing eyes, broken arms, and melted legs. She destroys pets - fish, a chicken, a donkey, a squirrel and even a turtle. She insists on serving her friends tea made from chalk and water from the dog bowl. And each time she swears she'll do better. The Comtesse de Ségur called her tales "cautionary". For whom? The children...or us?

Let's just say that Tim Burton and Edward Gorey owe a lot to a little Russian grandmother scribbling her thoughts in her quiet chateau north of Paris. Join us for our season finale!"

Parson's Nose Theater's 2013-14 Season concludes with Little Sophie's Misfortunes, April 12th at 7pm and April 13th at 3pm. Running time appx. 90 minutes including intermission. Appropriate ages 9+.

Parson's Nose Theater performs at Lineage Performing Arts Center located at 89 South Fair Oaks, Pasadena, CA 91105

Parson's Nose Readers Theater performances are offered as "Pay What You Will". Reservations may be made online at www.parsonsnose.com or by calling 626-403-7667. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
