Pacific Symphony Announces 2012-13 Season

By:

Music Director Carl St.Clair and Pacific Symphony launch the Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom Family Foundation Classical Series and special events for 2012-13-an exceptional and diverse season designed to stimulate the mind, touch the heart and leave audiences uplifted. Embracing traditional repertoire, while introducing bright new interpretations, inventive staging and the best in established and emerging guest artists, the line-up includes numerous highlights. Among these are three new innovative Music Unwound programs: "Come to the Cabaret," Mozart's Requiem and Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring"; a continuation of the opera initiative that  last season-"Symphonic Voices"-featuring Puccini's "Tosca"; critically acclaimed American Composers Festival enters its 13th year by exploring the music of the iconic American jazz age with the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

"Next season is one of the most interesting and eclectic seasons of my tenure-from the repertoire to the guest artists," says Maestro St.Clair. "We will cover a broad spectrum of masterworks, both traditional and new, being performed by our wonderful Pacific Symphony musicians and a list of world-class solo artists.

"Among the musical highlights will be the Beethoven Violin Concerto, Gershwin's 'An American in Paris'and Rimsky-Korsakov's colorful and exotic Scheherazade. We will continue our look at the great symphonies of Gustav Mahler, following on the heels of his unforgettable Ninth Symphony this past season, this time exploring his Fifth Symphony. And following our 'Departures' theme from the past three years where we've explored the music of Tchaikovsky, Bruckner and Mahler in their final years-we will perform an entire concert of music by Mozart, concluding with his 'Requiem.'"

All concerts take place in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Subscription packages are $240-$975 (single tickets go on sale in August); for more information or to purchase season tickets, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org
