Marquee Productions to Present BILLY ELLIOT

By:

Marquee Productions will present the inspiring international hit musical Billy Elliot April 22-May 1 at the historic Montgomery Theater (271 Market Street, downtown San Jose). Tickets go on sale to the general public February 23 at www.cmtsj.org or by calling 408-288-5437. Marquee Productions, a division of CMT San Jose-the longest thriving arts organization in Silicon Valley-made its debut in 2005 with a goal to re-engage CMT alumni performers who donate their performance time as a benefit to the organization. Now in its 48th year, CMT (Children's Musical Theatre San Jose) is the oldest performing arts organization in San Jose. Through musical theater, CMT educates and trains today's youth to become the artists, patrons and citizens of tomorrow.

CMT Marquee is honored to be one of the first local theaters to present Billy Elliot. CMT Artistic Director Kevin R. Hauge, who is celebrating his 20th anniversary with the organization, directs the show. Billy Elliot is an award-winning international musical hit which features a memorable score by Sir Elton John, sensational dance numbers and a powerful inspiring story that has captivated audiences around the world. Set in a northern English mining town against the background of the 1984-85 miners' strike, Billy Elliot is the uplifting tale of a young boy's struggle against the odds to make his dreams come true. The story follows Billy's journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community-and changes his life forever.

The two annual Marquee Productions that feature a cast of CMT alumni as well as many working actors from the Bay Area have become a CMT tradition, highlighting the company's full artistic potential with high-caliber professional-level entertainment.

Local actor Matthew Dean from Willow Glen will play the role of Billy. CMT Rising Stars Milo Mee and Connor Sherry will share the character of Michael; Billy's father is CMT alumni, local performer and director Ian Leonard and CMT alumna Mary Teresa Caprilles will perform the pivotal role of Billy's dance teacher.
