MPE Productions Continues Social Exploration in World Premiere of REVOLUTION IN A CATSUIT

By: Mar. 09, 2017

MPE Productions, nominated last year for two 2016 STAGE RAW AWARDS (with a win for Erica Gimpel in Sister), continues its quest to explore the complexities of true diversity in theatre with the World Premiere of Revolution In A Catsuit by London, U.K. Playwright and Actress, Somi De Souza.

A timely dark comedy that strikes at the heart of the current international 'brown race' profiling crisis, Revolution In A Catsuit explores the world of two actresses of color working desperately against a London casting system that doesn't care which 'brown nation' they come from as long as they can be made to fit stereotypes. The Western understanding (or lack thereof) of 'brown' is put under a hilarious and sometimes painful microscope.

Nina, an actress turned activist, is campaigning for better roles on TV for actors of color, but when her breakout role is about to go to Tuhli (her bi-racial sistah-in-arms) the campaign takes on a very different fight. Ambition. Race. Gender. Jealousy. - all play their parts in this behind the scenes look at what happens when a woman places her career above all else in an industry that will not see beyond her race.

Starring Somi De Souza (Children Of Men), Guy Picot (SacRed Fools Theater Company), Esther Mira (Women w/o Walls, Sharing Day), Victoria Platt (Guiding Light, Round Midnight) and Tim Pocock (Wolverine). Directed by Stage Raw, NAACP nominee and SONY GOLD Award winner Michael Phillip Edwards and Produced by Michael Phillip Edwards and Somi De Souza. Opening April 6th and running through April 30th, 2017 at THE BOOTLEG THEATER - 2220 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90057.
