MARIE CURIE Premieres at Hollywood Fringe, Now thru 6/21

By:

The 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival is the next stop for "An Evening with 'Marie Curie: Rogue Scientist,'" a new one-woman play chronicling the famed physicist's life. "Rogue Scientist" explores the trials and successes of Madame Marie Curie - from her childhood in Russian-occupied Poland and Parisian education, to her Nobel Prize wins, public scandal, WWI exploits, and eventual death from radiation exposure.

"I can see why Marie's story has endured," said Rebecca Lynn Morales, star and co-producer of the solo-show. "Calling her remarkable would be an understatement. I only hope, in some small way, to do justice to her legacy."

A common complaint about historical one-person shows is their tendency to be dry and monotonous, as if the audience is gathering to hear someone read lifelessly from a dense textbook. "We took great care to make 'Rogue' a better experience for the viewers," playwright-director Gabriel Morales explained. "It's not a historical lecture, just a recital of dates and facts. With our stream-of-consciousness approach - and Rebecca's passionate, rapturous performance - you will see this extraordinary figure share and relive her most joyful and devastating memories.

You're with Marie during her final moments, in her head, as her life flashes before her eyes." 'Marie Curie: Rogue Scientist' performs at The Actors Company during the 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Thursdays at 8 pm, tonight, June 7, and June 14 and 21, 2012. Running time is 135 minutes, including one fifteen-minute intermission.

Contains dialogue regarding war and adult situations. Not recommended for children under 10. For more information visit www.mariecurieplay.com.
