Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the global leader in music rights management, announces its 20th annual six-day conducting workshop series taught by BMI Classic Contribution Award winner, conductor and composer Lucas Richman.

Beginning July 11, an elite group of BMI composers will participate in the workshop where they will hone their conducting skills in preparation for the final session in which they will conduct a 32-piece orchestra live to picture.

The sessions will be taught at BMI's Los Angeles office and at the Cow on The Wall Studio in North Hollywood. The finale will take place at The Bridge Recording in Glendale on July 22, 2017.

This year's exemplary group of workshops participants will include film and television composers Alexis Grapsas (Sundance Lab Fellow, additional music for Fox's Empire), Forrest Gray (Sundance Lab Fellow, And Everything Is Going Fine), Gabriel Hays (Disney's Star Darlings), Becky Kneubuhl (Netflix's Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse), Zack Ryan (Amazon's Just Add Magic, I Smile Back), Mike Simon (additional music for ABC's Once Upon a Time), Allyson Newman (Adult Swim's Children's Hospital) and Emmy-nominaTed Duncan Thum (Chef's Table.) The classes will be coordinated by BMI Film/TV executives Ray Yee and Philip Shrut, as well as BMI's Film/TV staff.

A BMI composer and conductor, Lucas Richman has served as Music Director for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra since 2010 and completed a 12-year tenure as Music Director for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2015. The GRAMMY-winning Richman is a leading expert in conducting and composing, having fashioned an outstanding career as a conductor with numerous orchestras in the U.S. He has also proved himself an invaluable collaborator for many film composers, serving as conductor of the Academy Award-nominated The Village, As Good As It Gets, Face/Off, Seven, Breakdown, Anastasia, The Manchurian Candidate and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. In 2010, John Williams invited Richman to lead the three-month North American summer tour of Star Wars in Concert.

Past participants in the celebrated workshop include composers Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans), Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Blackfish), Laura Karpman (Underground, The Living Edens), Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air), Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Supernatural), Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Contagion), Lolita Ritmanis (Batman Beyond, Teen Titans), and Juan Carlos Rodriguez (East Los High, Matador).

Celebrating over 76 years of service to songwriters, composers, music publishers and businesses, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a global leader in music rights management, serving as an advocate for the value of music. BMI represents the public performance rights in nearly 12 million musical works created and owned by more than 750,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers. The Company negotiates music license agreements and distributes the fees it generates as royalties to its affiliated writers and publishers when their songs are performed in public. In 1939, BMI created a groundbreaking open-door policy becoming the only performing rights organization to welcome and represent the creators of blues, jazz, country, and American roots music. Today, the musical compositions in BMI's repertoire, from chart toppers to perennial favorites, span all genres of music and are consistently among the most-performed hits of the year.
