Little Fish Theatre to Stage THE WEIR, Begin. 9/20

By:

Little Fish Theatre today announced the opening of the ninth show of its 2013 season: THE WEIR, by Conor McPherson. A group of Irishmen spend an evening in their local pub impressing a visiting young woman with the local lore - each story more captivating and frightening than the last.

What first appears to be a sleepy town is revealed to have a history rich in what could be paranormal or paranoia, according to the local townsfolk who expertly spin supernatural tales with charming Irish country flavor.

"This play is a great illustration of the highly-evolved storytelling that predated television and movies, and was the primary evening entertainment in rural communities for centuries," notes director Stephanie Coltrin. "McPherson also masterfully captures the unique relationships between these men, making for an intricate and affectionate portrayal of Irish country folk which is also the foundation for a series of satisfyingly frightening tales." Coltrin has directed numerous Little Fish productions to critical acclaim, most recently including Looking, Bach at Leipzig and Panache.

The play will run Fridays and Saturdays September 20, 21, 27 and 28, plus October 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 8pm. Mid-week performances will be presented Wednesday October 2 and Thursdays October 3 and 17 at 8pm. A Sunday matinee is scheduled for 2pm on October 13, after which the creative team will be available for 10 to 15 minutes for post-show discussion with the audience.

Founded in 2002, Little Fish Theatre presents classic and contemporary plays in an intimate setting on Centre Street in downtown San Pedro. Producing eleven plays each year for a one-room 65-seat venue, Little Fish delivers the quintessential close-up theatrical experience, where audience and performers share space and sight-lines, making for eruptive laughter, highly-charged action and palpable emotion.
