Liner Notes Concert Series Returns To Geffen Playhouse
Rita Wilson's Liner Notes, part of The Geffen Playhouse Spotlight Entertainment Series, returns for a special limited engagement January 10 - 13, marking its fourth tour at Geffen's Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater. Wilson will be joined by songwriters Billy Steinberg (Madonna's "Like a Virgin," Cindy Lauper's "True Colors"), the Warren Brothers (Tim McGRaw's "Felt Good On My Lips," Dierk Bentley's "Feel That Fire") and additional artist/s to be announced for an intimate evening performing song sets and sharing the personal stories behind their biggest hits. Each show will be staged in the round, with audience members surrounding the artists.
Best known for her work as an actor (It's Complicated, Sleepless in Seattle, CBS's The Good Wife, HBO's Girls), film producer (Mamma Mia!, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 1 and 2) and activist, Wilson has accessed a powerful, deeply personal outlet with her songwriting. Her third and latest album "Bigger Picture" was released September 28, 2018, and features songs co-written by accomplished Nashville songwriters including the Warren Brothers (Tim McGRaw, Dierks Bentley, Toby Keith), Kristian Bush of Sugarland, Darrel Brown (LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, Ariana Grande), and more. "Bigger Picture" follows Wilson's 2012 debut album "AM/FM," as well as her 2016 self-titled album, which featured prominently in a sold-out two-week residency at the famed Café Carlyle in New York City that same year. She has previously toured with the American Rock band and Roll & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Chicago, and recently made her debut at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in October of this year.
"Songwriting has been the most pure expression of who I am," said Wilson. "I love everything I do, but it's the most intimate act you can have creatively. As an actor, you put on a character, and as a producer, you have to let things out of your hands. But as a songwriter, there's nowhere to hide."
