LA Theatre Works To Air The School for Husbands 7/17

By:

Beginning Saturday, July 17, 2010, L.A. Theatre Works Radio Theatre Series will air The School for Husbands and The Imaginary Cuckold, both by Molière (translated by Richard Wilbur), starring Brian Bedford, Emily Bergl, Dakin Matthews, Juliet Mills, Christopher Neame, Lloyd Owen, Alan Shearman, Rhashan Stone, Olivia Williams, Moira Quirk, Darren Richardson, Carolyn Seymour, and Joanne Whalley. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on 89.3 KPCC, and can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/

Jealousy is one of our most confounding human emotions. Psychologists disagree about its origins: did jealousy evolve along with other human emotions, or is it something we've learned? The great French playwright Molière wrote often about jealousy and its disastrous effect on our relationships. Of his so-called "jealousy plays," few were as widely-performed in Molière's lifetime as The School for Husbands and The Imaginary Cuckold. The broadcast includes interviews with translator Richard Wilbur and the star of both plays, the Tony Award-winning actor Brian Bedford.

L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 89.7 WGBH, Boston; 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 90.1 WABE, Atlanta; 94.1 KPFA, Berkeley; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and many other stations nationwide.

Major funding for L.A. Theatre Works broadcast series is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation. Founded in 1989, the S. Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting non-profit organizations and their work in the community. Lead funding for this production was provided by the Sidney E. Frank Foundation.
