Hollywood Bowl Welcomes GERSHWIN ACROSS AMERICA, 8/25

The iconic songs of George and Ira Gershwin are celebrated at the Hollywood Bowl with an all-star lineup of special guests including Jason Mraz, Monica Mancini, BeBe Winans, Nancy Wilson and St. Vincent. They will be joined by an All-Star Big Band and strings featuring the Shelly Berg Trio, Gordon Goodwin, Arturo Sandoval, Tom Scott, and more. Classic favorites such as "Summertime," "Someone to Watch Over Me," and "They Can't Take That Away From Me" take on a new twist with pop and jazz interpretations.
 
Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz has achieved vast recognition since his 2004 debut album Waiting for my Rocket to Come, which features the hit songs ""Remedy (I Won't Worry)," "You & I Both," and "Curbside Prophet." Shortly thereafter, he returned with his Grammy-nominated, critically acclaimed Mr. A-Z, which continued his chart success with "Wordplay." Throughout, his reputation as a tremendous live act soared. Mraz's most recent release, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things., earned three 2009 Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "I'm Yours", which has been certified 4x platinum and made history as the first song ever to top the charts in four pop radio formats. 

Double-Grammy nominee Monica Mancini - daughter of famed film composer Henry Mancini and the notable studio singer Ginny O'Conner Mancini - has carved out an impressive career as a concert performer, appearing with major symphony orchestras worldwide. Her latest and fifth release, I've Loved These Days (June 2010), is a collection of iconic songs from classic singer-songwriters including Lennon & McCartney, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Jackson Browne, Harry Nilsson, BrIan Wilson and Janis Ian. The New York Times has described Mancini's rich, expressive voice as "the glamorous vocal equivalent to diamonds flashing."
 
Hailing from the first family of gospel music, the legendary Winans, Benjamin "BeBe" Winans has not been limited to the standards or perceptions of others. He has worn many hats in his career and his faith continues to sustain his ministry as a singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger of music. His talents are further revealed as a syndicated radio host, actor and entrepreneur. Winans has garnered numerous accolades, including Grammys, Dove Awards, Stellar Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and a Soul Train Award.
 
With over 70 albums and three Grammy awards, Nancy Wilson's repertoire has included pop-style ballads, jazz and blues, show tunes and well-known standards. Since she began her professional singing career over fifty years ago, Wilson has built an inspiring repertoire, and continues to defy categorization with her versatile singing style. Critics have described her as "a jazz singer," "a blues singer," "a pop singer, "and "a cabaret singer," but the descriptive title she prefers is song stylist. Although her lush and dramatic vocals successfully lend itself to a variety of song styles, some consider her to be the epitome of a jazz singer.
 
Mutli-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Annie Clark's recorded debut as St. Vincent, Marry Me, received immediate attention. Critics from all points of the cultural compass - Pitchfork to Spin to The New York Times Magazine - were entranced by the album's arrangements and lyrics, and the steadily growing crowds at St. Vincent's live shows were impressed by Clark's musical chops and magnetic stage presence. St. Vincent's new record, Actor, also received widespread critical acclaim. Written using the computer music application GarageBand, the inspiration for the album's songs came from Clark's favorite films, including Woody Allen and Disney animated features. Clark was previously a member of The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens' touring band.
