Geffen Playhouse Announces David Esbjornson As Director Of EQUIVOCATION, Opens 9/16

By: Jul. 29, 2009

Rounding out the final directorial slot for the Geffen Playhouse's 09/10 season, renowned director David Esbjornson (The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?) comes on board to helm Bill Cain's Equivocation, which is set to open November 18, 2009. Equivocation, a witty historical fiction with Shakespeare asits protagonist, is the second production in the Geffen's season, directly following the world premiere of Blair Singer's uproarious satire Matthew Modine Saves the Alpacas, which opens on September 16, 2009.

Tickets to both productions will go on sale to the public at noon on August 4 through the Geffen Playhouse box office and online at geffenplayhouse.com. On the heels of Farragut North, which sold out the last two weeks of performances and was the highest grossing production in the Geffen's 08/09 season, the Geffen Playhouse is staggering the on-sale dates of the next season's productions to give subscribers an opportunity to purchase additional tickets to many of the shows where a high demand is expected.

On-sale dates for the remaining 09/10 productions, The Female of the Speciesfeaturing Annette Bening, Nightmare Alley directed by Gil Cates and Thurgood featuring Laurence Fishburne, will be announced shortly. For each of these productions, additional tickets will be available to subscribers one weekbefore going on sale to the general public. Single ticket prices range from $35 to $55 during preview week and $45 to $75 during the regular run. Five-play subscriptions are available beginning at $160, which breaks down to about $32 per performance.
