GUYS AND DOLLS And CINDERELLA Among Cabrillo Music Theatre's 2009/10 Season

Nussbaum, Cabrillo Music Theatre President and Chief Executive Officer, proudly announces Cabrillo Music Theatre’s 2009-2010 season.  Fresh from such recent smash hits as 42nd Street and Breaking Up is Hard To Do, Cabrillo Music Theatre will present its biggest season yet.  In addition to the four-show season, Cabrillo will introduce a bonus holiday production at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.  

The 2009-2010 season includes:
Guys and Dolls: October 16-25, 2009
The Andrews Brothers: February 5-14, 2010
How to Succeedin Business Without Really Trying: April 23-May 2, 2010
Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella: July 23-August 1, 2010

And, as a bonus production, Irving Berlin's White Christmas: December 26-29, 2009

The guys are gambling, the dolls are dancing, and The Audience comes up a winner with Guys and Dolls.   This classic musical will be directed by Cabrillo’s Ovation Award-winning (Jekyll & Hyde) director, Nick DeGruccio.  The classic Frank Loesser score features the title tune, plus “Luck Be A Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat,” “I’ve Never Been In Love Before,” and many more.  “Guys and Dolls marks another exciting ‘first’ for Cabrillo Music Theatre,” says Carole W. Nussbaum.  

“Cabrillo’s new production takes place simultaneously with the show’s fourth revival on Broadway.” Continues Nussbaum, “Cabrillo’s Guys and Dolls is a sure bet for Southern California audiences.”  Guys and Dolls plays October 16th through the 25th, 2009, and is recommended for all audiences.

As with last season’s hit, Breaking Up is Hard To Do, winter once again brings a premiere to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.    The Andrews Brothers is a musical valentine to the heroes of World War II.  When a certain singing trio of siblings fails to arrive at their U.S.O. gig, three soldiers find themselves giving the performance of a lifetime.   “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “On A Slow Boat to China,” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” are just a few of the favorites in this madcap new musical.  Says Nussbaum, “Cabrillo audiences will delight in the nostalgic music, slapstick comedy, and old-fashioned romance, as we present three of the ‘Plaids,’ from the Original New York production of Forever Plaid – David Engel, Larry Raben, and Stan Chandler – in The Andrews Brothers.”  Recommended for all audiences, The Andrews Brothers plays February 5th through the 14th, 2010, and is perfect entertainment for the entire family.

“There couldn’t be a better time than now to present the ultimate musical satire about corporate America, How to Succeedin Business Without Really Trying,” says Nussbaum.  This Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner features another classic Frank Loesser score, including “The Company Way,” “The Brotherhood of Man,” “I Believe In You,” and “A Secretary Is Not A Toy.”  Sharp comedy, dazzling choreography, and great music make How to Succeed, playing April 23rd through May 2nd, 2010, a theatre winner.  Recommended for all audiences.

The summer of 2010 promises to be a magical one in Thousand Oaks, when Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella takes the Kavli stage from July 23rd through August 1st, 2010.  Mice turn into horses, a pumpkin turns into a carriage, and a young woman turns into a princess.  Cinderella features such classic Rodgers and Hammerstein hits as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” and “Impossible.”  “Adding her own special magic to Cabrillo’s Cinderella is comedienne Sally Struthers, who will bring lots of belly-laughing fun as ‘The Fairy Godmother,’” enthuses Nussbaum.  “The ‘All In The Family” star will have audiences in stitches.”  Recommended for all audiences, “impossible things” will happen onstage at the Kavli Theatre in Cinderella.  
 
“But wait!  There’s more!”  Cabrillo Music Theatre presents an optional fifth production, which, as Nussbaum says, is “straight from Broadway to your Backyard.  It’s the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza premiere of Irving Berlin's White Christmas, onstage at the Kavli Theatre.”  This musical, based on the beloved Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye film, features the title song, plus 16 other famed Berlin tunes, including “Blue Skies,” “Sisters,” and “I Love a Piano.”  Continues Nussbaum, “Cabrillo’s favorite Singin' in the Rain duo, David Engel and Randy Rogel, team up once again in the lead roles.”  Featuring elaborate dance, beautiful costumes, and a full, onstage orchestra, Irving Berlin's White Christmas is Cabrillo Music Theatre’s spectacular holiday present to audiences.   Playing on Christmas weekend for six performances only, White Christmas is recommended for all audiences.

Cabrillo Music Theatre concludes its current 2008-2009 season with Cats, playing July 24th through August 2nd, 2009.
