Edmund L. Shaff Stars in CHURCHILL at The Production Company, 9/14-23

By:

Artistic Directors August Viverito and T L Kolman announce the special limited Los Angeles engagement of Andrew Edlin's CHURCHILL, starring stage and screen veteran Edmund L. Shaff and directed by James Horan. This remarkable one-man reincarnation will run six performances only September 14 through September 23, 2012 at The Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, Calif.

CHURCHILL is set in London, on April 4, 1955. We find the old lion alone in his bunker trying to make up his mind whether or not to finally retire. Edlin's literate, informative script sketches Churchill's long, colorful career and incorporates his glorious wartime speeches, and his salty wit and wisdom. Churchill tells of his fears that his successor might lack the strength to stand up to the Soviets, his admiration and respect for FDR, General Patton, Harry S. Truman, his abiding love for his parents, and his shocking, unexpected electoral defeat in 1945. Shaff's almost holographic portrayal is at times humorous, at times touching, and altogether captivating.

Past performances nationwide have garnered such high praise as "Edmund L. Shaff, who plays the doughty British prime minister in Andrew Edlin's solo drama, has an appropriately jowly face, and when he turns mischievous, the resemblance to Churchill is almost uncanny." Shaff is a "skillful and splendidly persuasive actor." "Edmund L. Shaff, whose resemblance to the irascible two- time British Prime Minister creates an unforgettable theatrical experience, gives a wonderful performance and a thoroughly human view of this giant of history. Coupled with James Horan's astute direction, and an expert set and lighting design, it's an remarkable portrait."

CHURCHILL plays six performances only, September 14 through September 23, 2012, running Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets are $25 and can be booked at www.theprodco.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006.

THE Production Company @ THE LEX THEATRE is located at 6760 Lexington Avenue, Hollywood, Calif.
