Dudamel Leads LA Philhlarmonic On His First Tour As Music Director 5/10-21

As the Walt Disney Concert Hall 2009/10 season closes, the Los Angeles Philharmonic embarks on an 8-city, 10-concert U.S. tour led by Gustavo Dudamel, his first as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This, the orchestra's first coast-to-coast tour of the United States since 2001, starts in San Francisco on May 10 and May 11, and also stops in Phoenix (May 12), Chicago (May 14), Nashville (May 15), Washington, DC (May 17), Philadelphia (May 19), and Newark (May 21). The tour concludes in New York City with two performances on May 20 and May 22, 2010.

The repertoire includes John Adams' City Noir and Mahler's First Symphony - the two works which were first performed by Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil for the internationally telecast Inaugural Gala at Walt Disney Concert Hall on October 8, 2009. City Noir was commissioned specifically for the event.

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, as part of the DG Concerts series, Deutsche Grammophon will release the live recording of City Noir from the Inaugural Gala on iTunes.

The repertoire for the U.S. tour also includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 and Bernstein's Symphony No. 2 The Age of Anxiety featuring Jean-Yves Thibaudet, who has been hailed as one of the best pianists in the world.

In the spirit of the LA Phil's commitment to providing a broader access to music for all, an update for the popular, free iPhone application, Bravo Gustavo, is now available. The update offers two excerpts from Mahler's First Symphony, one of this landmark tour's featured works. Bravo Gustavo is part of Gustavo Dudamel's overall music education strategy which includes The Dudamel Fellows Program, Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) and concerts, participatory music programs in schools, workshops, and events at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and various locations in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Gustavo Dudamel, presents the finest in orchestral and chamber music, recitals, new music, jazz, world music and holiday concerts at two of the most remarkable locations anywhere to experience music - Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. In addition to a 30-week winter subscription season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the LA Phil presents a 12-week summer festival at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In fulfilling its commitment to the community, the Association's involvement with Los Angeles extends to educational concerts, children's programming and community concerts, ever seeking to provide inspiration and delight to the broadest possible audience.
