The Final Weekend of Chalk Repertory Theatre's fourth biennial FLASH Festival concludes with a new slate of five short plays. Fifteen Los Angeles playwrights were invited to create original 10-minute plays inspired by the space in which they are performed. This year's Chalk RepFLASH Festival is in residence at Los Angeles' St. John's Cathedral with plays written on the timely theme of Religion and Politics, performed by 15 teams of Actors and directed by 15 directors, presented on-site over three weekends, October 6-22, 2016, where five of the short plays are performed each weekend.

The writers have one month to complete the first drafts of their scripts. Once the scripts are in, the writers are assigned directors, casts are secured, and each piece is given no more than ten hours of rehearsal before it is presented to an audience.

Final Weekend - October 20-21-22 at 7PM:

QUITE CONTRARY by Dorothy Fortenberry (writer on The 100 and the upcoming A Handmaid's Tale); Directed by Kris Lencowski: Three Marys outside Jesus's tomb have to decide whether to reveal that he has gone missing - which they know will lead to the founding of Christianity and all that comes next.

PATCH OF BLUE by Lisa Kenner Grissom; Directed by Johnny Kwon

HOLY CRAP by Meg Miroshnik; Directed by Jennifer Chang

SOCK ANGELS by Rachel Axler (two-time Emmy-winning comedy writer, currently writes for Veep); Directed by Adam J. Smith: Two sock puppets contemplate faith and existence in the courtyard outside a wedding.

Chalk Repertory Theatre, founded in 2008, is dedicated to producing classical and contemporary plays in unconventional spaces. Working with a diverse group of artists, Chalk Rep creates work that is designed to reach a non-traditional audience and stimulate community discussion with an aim to transform the ideas that non-theatregoers have about what theatre can be, to create work that is intimate, relevant, and accessible to all.
