Celebrate Native American Arts and Culture at the Autry, 11/5 & 6

By:

The Autry National Center presents a weekend-long celebration of Native American arts and culture centered around its annual American Indian Arts Marketplace. Featuring over 160 Native American artists selling their works of art in various mediums, the weekend will also host performances, children's activities, documentary films by The Sundance Institute, a collector's lecture, a panel discussion, book signings, and theatre performances by the Autry's world-renowned theatre company, Native Voices at the Autry.

The American Indian Arts Marketplace features top Native American artists from across the country selling pottery, jewelry, sculptures, paintings, mixed-media works, weavings, beadwork, woodcarvings, and other cultural items. The 25,000-square-foot Marketplace includes performances by Native dancers, musicians, and storytellers, plus other musical acts throughout the weekend. It also features hands-on activities for children and artist demonstrations. Native American food will be available as well as a varied menu in the Autry Cafe.

The Marketplace weekend will feature the exhibition The Art of Native American Basketry: A Living Tradition, with selections from the world's largest and most important collection of Native American baskets. In the Museum Lobby, visitors can view past winners of the Marketplace's Jackie Autry Purchase Award, which is given to one work of art each year.
