Carol Channing Presents Broadway Voices For Arts in Education On 10/11

By:

The Suite Life of Zach and Cody's Kim Rhodes will Host this one night only event as a number of celebrated Broadway veterans including Mary Jo Catlett, Carole Cook, Jason Graae, Ilene Graff, Sam Harris, as well as students from Creative Planet School of the Arts (www.cpsoa.org) will be joining Carol Channing as they gather together for a one night only event at UCLA's Royce Hall for the purpose of raising money and awareness with regard to the need for arts in the public school system.  Exposure to the arts in school, builds self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork.  And, ultimately these things create better, safer schools for our children.  "You and I don't need to save the arts. We need to help the arts save our children," says Carol.

The event will take place at UCLA's Royce Hall (on the UCLA campus - Enter Royce Drive off of Sunset) on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 with a 7:00pm curtain.

Tickets cost $25, $35 and $50 ($15 for students) and are available by calling 310.825.2101 or through TicketMaster.

Over the last three years Miss Channing has been making appearances (performing, speaking, teaching, etc.) at both public schools (Jr and Sr High) as well as universities in order to help them raise the much needed funds for their Arts Departments as well as raise awareness for the need for youth involvement and exposure to the Arts.

On Sunday October 11th, Carol Channing and her husband Harry Kullijian are taking on their most ambitious project to date.  They are putting together an evening with some of Carol's friends entitled Broadway Voices for Arts in Education at UCLA's Royce Hall. The program will consist of a few of Carol's friends and colleagues participating with one or two songs, routines or even just entertaining banter.

Due to Carol's massive resume, she was awarded an honorary doctorate of entertainment arts from California State University, Stanislaus, officially making her Dr. Carol Channing.  Now, in the good old fashion tradition, Dr. Carol is making “theatrical house calls” to raise awareness about the need for arts in the public school system.

The stated purposes of The Channing-Kullijian Foundation is to launch a statewide awareness campaign heralding the benefits of Arts back into the curriculum of public schools of California and to provide musical instruments for low income school districts and the funding of scholarships for students and teachers in the Arts.
