Boston Court Presents HEAVIER THAN… As Replacement Summer Production

The Theatre @ Boston Court announces the World Premiere of Steve Yockey's "Heavier Than..." as a replacement for the previously scheduled "Witness Uganda." "Heavier Than..." will be directed by Abigail Deser, and will premiere Saturday, July 23, 2011 on the Main Stage at Boston Court Performing Arts Center, 70 North Mentor Avenue.

"We had made the difficult decision to drop ‘Witness Uganda' from our 2011 Season for budgetary reasons. Boston Court has always operated in the black and several issues have presented themselves which have caused this production to be too great a financial risk at this time," says Michael Seel, Executive Director, Boston Court Performing Arts Center. "We are sorry to lose the ability to produce this new musical and know it will go on to have a wonderful life elsewhere."

Of "Heavier Than...", The Theatre @ Boston Court Co-Artistic Director Michael Michetti says, "We've been very interested in Steve Yockey's work since we had the pleasure of hearing his play ‘Heavier Than...' in our 2008 Reading Series, and have since been tracking him closely." Adds Co-Artistic Director Jessica Kubzansky, "Steve's writing is fresh, lyrical, funny and profound, with an inherent sense of theatricality, and we're very excited to once again see a play go from a development phase in our Reading Series to fruition in a full production."

This mash-up of several Greek myths unfolds in the heart of a labyrinth where Aster the Minotaur contemplates turning 30 in a world that sees him as nothing more than a murderous oddity. Aster has to navigate the impending arrival of warriors out to kill him, a deceptively enticing chorus, a plotting sister, and Icarus, a sexually obsessed boy with wings, all while pining to see his estranged Mother. Yockey uses a wry dry wit, lyric text, and legend to tell a painfully funny and moving story about the families we yearn for versus the families we have.

"Heavier Than..." previews for six performances beginning July 14, opening July 23rd and runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through August 21. Preview tickets are priced at $17 and regular performances at $32. Senior, student and group discounts are also available.
