Get ready to swell with Southern California pride when pop culture humorist Charles Phoenix presents his first ever Retro Knott's Berry Farm Slide Show. One performance only takes place on Sunday, May 15 @ 2 pm at the historic Bird Cage Theater, located inside Knott's Berry Farm's historic Ghost Town.

With his infectious enthusiasm and keen eye for detail, Charles shares the amazing evolution of Knott's from its humble berry farm beginnings in the 20s, to world class theme park in the 40s, 50s and 60s. You'll learn how Walter Knott discovered the boysenberry, why Mrs. Knott began serving her famous fried chicken dinners, and what inspired the creation of America's first permanent theme park, Ghost Town. Knott's fans will enjoy the back story of Ghost Town's historic buildings, unique displays, curio shops, colorful characters, and favorite attractions including the haunted shack, the mine train, log ride and much more. Your imagination will be inspired and your spirit will soar!

"This is my favorite kind of story to tell - the story of a legendary landmark that's homespun and family run," says Phoenix. "What Walter Knott and his family contributed to the life and lore of Southern California is off the charts."

Charles will be joined onstage by Eric Lynxwiler, co-author of Knott's Preserved (Angel City Press, 2010). Tickets to the show include an all-day Knott's park pass, so fans can explore old Ghost Town, ride the old train, pan for gold, and enjoy a fried chicken dinner just as visitors have been doing for decades.

Pop humorist Charles Phoenix loves to celebrate classic and kitschy American life and style. He is known for his Retro Slide Show performances, "Slide of the Week" postings, "Test Kitchen" creations, and colorful coffee table books such as Southern California in the 50s and Americana the Beautiful. Phoenix has appeared on The Conan Show, The Martha Stewart Show, and is a frequent contributor to NPR. Visit www.charlesphoenix.com and "like" Charles on Facebook.
