BUCKET OF BLOOD: THE HORROR COMEDY CABARET to Stage Developmental Readings in Burbank
Ari Stidham directs Alex Lewis as Walter Paisley at The NiteCap in this Roger Corman-inspired beatnik musical.
Lewberger and SLAM FRANK star Alex Lewis will lead the developmental reading of Bucket of Blood: The Horror Comedy Cabaret, a new adaptation inspired by Roger Corman's cult classic film. The production will be presented at The NiteCap in Burbank on select dates from June 26 through July 5.
Lewis will star as Walter Paisley, the busboy-turned-murderer at the center of the story. The production is directed by Ari Stidham, who adapted the book and contributed new songs, with arrangements and musical direction by Ethan Furman.
Drawing on the twisted world of Roger Corman's A Bucket of Blood, the cabaret-style musical transports audiences to the beatnik era, when jazz clubs thrived and the counterculture movement was taking shape. The story follows Walter Paisley, an unlucky and impressionable busboy whose life changes dramatically after he accidentally kills a cat and covers it in clay. The resulting sculpture launches him to unexpected fame within the art world, forcing him to confront how far he is willing to go to maintain his newfound success.
The developmental reading offers audiences an early look at the latest incarnation of Bucket of Blood: The Original Beatnik Musical, reimagined as an intimate horror-comedy cabaret experience.
