The McCallum Theatre transforms itself from theatre to big top as it brings to the stage the hilarious and exciting Cirque Mechanics BOOM TOWN for four performances, April 5-7. Cirque Mechanics was founded in 2004 by Boston native and German Wheel artist, Chris Lashua, after the success of his collaborative project with the Circus Center of San Francisco, Birdhouse Factory and quickly established itself as a premiere American circus. With its unique approach to performance, inspiring storytelling and innovative mechanical staging it has been hailed as "the greatest contribution to the American circus since Cirque du Soleil".

Cirque Mechanics, although inspired by modern circus, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American ingenuity.  Their productions are rooted in realism and display a raw quality rarely found in modern circus which makes their message timeless and relevant.  The stories are wrapped in circus acrobatics, mechanical wonders and a bit of clowning around. Early mining inspired machines serve as the playground for prospectors and adventure seekers in Cirque Mechanics' newest production, BOOM TOWN, as the audience is transported to the 1865 mining town of Rosebud, where an unlikely discovery sets off a series of hilarious and unexpected events full of the lore, excitement, and adventure of the Gold Rush and the Wild West!

Founder Chris Lashua has spent his entire life on or around wheels. After nearly a decade of professional bicycle freestyle competitions and performance, he found himself at China's famed "Wu Ciao" festival in 1992, where he won a bronze medal and a place on Cirque du Soleil's Japan tour of Fascination.  Chris's obsession with wheels led him to perform inside one --- a German Wheel --- and as the opening act of Cirque du Soleil's Quidam in 1996.

Boom Town, inspired by the spirit of adventure of the American Gold Rush and the ingenuity of mining, tells a story of early western expansion with energy and humor.  Time Out New York noted that Boom Town "wows from start to finish".

The McCallum presents Cirque Mechanics: Boom Town April 5 and 6 at 8:00pm and April 7 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Tickets are available by calling the McCallum Theatre Box Office at (760) 340-2787 or online at www.mccallumtheatre.com.
