Andras Schiff Completes First Season of The Bach Project at Walt Disney Concert Hall

By:

Pianist András Schiff, as part of his two-year exploration of Bach's keyboard music, completes the first year of the project at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Wednesday, April 17, at 8 pm. Schiff surveys Bach's distillations of the French style in a program featuring the composer's six French Suites, written between 1722 and 1725, and French Overture.

Schiff's Bach Project began earlier this season and concludes in the 2013/14 season with two Colburn Celebrity Recitals, October 9 and October 20, and a Baroque Variations performance, October 16.

Indisputably one of the most prominent proponents of the keyboard works of J.S. Bach, András Schiff has long proclaimed that Bach stands at the core of his music making. The Bach Project is comprised of six Bach recitals and - in selected venues - an orchestral week of Bach, Schumann and Mendelssohn with Schiff at the piano and on the podium. In addition to Walt Disney Concert Hall, the project visits San Francisco's Symphony Hall and New York's Carnegie Hall. Individual recitals this season were presented in Vancouver, Seattle, Washington, DC, Chicago, Chapel Hill, Ann Arbor, Boston and Toronto with remaining engagements in Santa Barbara and San Francisco.
Schiff's new recordings of both Books of The Well-Tempered Clavier for ECM - a four-disc set that includes an essay by Schiff - was released in September of 2012.

The Colburn Celebrity Recitals series for the 2012/13 season presents virtuoso performances by world-renowned artists. The remaining recital features violinist Hilary Hahn (May 7, 2013).
