ALEXIS GERSHWIN, the acclaimed vocalist, will pay tribute to her uncles with two very special concerts in California next month based on her CD Gershwin Sings Gershwin. For the Sunday, February 14 show at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center, tickets are $31.00 to $55.00. For tickets, call their box office at (800) 300-4345. For the Sunday, February 21 show at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center, tickets are $34.00 to $49.00. For tickets, call their box office at (805) 449-2787. Both shows are at 3:00 PM.

Ms. Gershwin has been singing the timeless classics of her forefathers ever since she can remember. And while her shows have always incorporated her kin's musical legacy, her newest creation "Gershwin Sings Gershwin" is a tribute of the most familial kind. Gershwin Sings Gershwin starring Alexis Gershwin is a personal ode to her uncles George and Ira Gershwin, celebrating their lives and their music. The show will also feature the Gershwin Singers and the Harry James Tribute Orchestra.

Ms. Gershwin has teamed with acclaimed musical director Steven Applegate (producer/musical director for Shirley Jones, Lorna Luft, Maureen McGovern to name a few) and recreated some of the most timeless music of all- that of her uncle George and Ira Gershwin.

The show will include all new arrangements of more than 20 Gershwin favorites. Songs like "A Foggy Day," "The Man That Got Away," "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "Embraceable You," "I Can't Get Started," "I've Got A Crush On You" and "Our Love Is Here To Stay" thrive within Ms. Gershwin's fresh arrangements.

"This is the culmination of my work as a vocalist, really. To do an entire show dedicated to my uncles is something I've always dreamed of, but never felt quite ready to try. Now I'm doing it and it is so exciting to see the show take shape."

Singing timeless classics is nothing new for Ms. Gershwin. When her young peers were going wild over rock n' roll, Alexis Gershwin was singing 40's and 50's styled love ballads at parties and proms. Having inherited the rich talents of her famous uncles as a performer and vocalist definitely helps. From sultry show tunes to soaring ballads, Ms. Gershwin commands full range of her vocal prowess. And while she is at home in almost any genre the twinkle in her eye remains fixated on her first love- jazz and blues. Legendary music from the likes of Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and of course, the Gershwins have remained an integral part of her repertoire throughout her career.

With Gershwin Sings Gershwin Alexis Gershwin ties it all together, bringing home rich legacy of song that will excite the music in your heart and the rhythm in your feet.
