ANW's Summer with Shakespeare Camp to Kick Off in June

By:

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, presents Summer With Shakespeare-now a FIVE-week Pasadena summer camp, June 15th to July 17, 2015, (Monday-Friday 10am -4pm) for youth aged 14-18. This conservatory-style program of acting, improvisation, stage diction, text analysis, kinetic exercises, and stage combat is led by classically trained, professional actors, choreographers, and designers.

Summer With Shakespeare participants will gain an appreciation for both the Bard's verse and exposure to a variety of his comedies, tragedies, and historical plays. This five-week, intensive camp challenges them to be both scholars and performers of Shakespeare by enhancing their acting and public speaking skills, building their self-confidence on the stage, and gaining experience in theater craft.

Summer with Shakespeare includes five fun-filled weeks of acting, stage-combat, costuming, and more, where teens can:

· Demystify Shakespeare through classes led by professional teaching artists.

· Meet fellow young artists through ensemble scene work.

· Master the language of the Bard through scansion and text work

· Work with professionals to create their set, lighting, costumes & sound

· Take charge of the stage in stage-combat workshops.

· Perform on ANW's main stage, just like the professionals.

The camp session culminates with each participating in a performance for an audience on the Theatre's main stage. The young actors will perform a full length Shakespearean production on Thursday, July 16, 2015.

Education and Community Outreach Director Alicia Green, who holds a master's degree in educational theater from NYU's Steinhardt School, administers ANW's summer programs. She advises, "Our camp is unique in that it imparts social interaction and skill sets that have been designed to be entirely age appropriate. Equally important, our campers have the unique experience of working with established professionals in the theatrical arts."

Summer With Shakespeare takes place Monday, June 15th - Friday, July 17, 2015, Monday - Friday from 10am to 4pm (no camp on Friday, July 3rd, Independence Day). A Noise Within is located on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue at 3352 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107.

The five-week camp costs $1,550, (weekly options and payment plans available) and a $350 deposit is required by Monday, May 25, 2015 (not including Summer With Shakespeare t-shirt or tickets to the Final Performance). For details, contact Alicia Green, Director of Education, at 626.356.3104 or email education@anoisewithin.org.
