A CHRISTMAS CAROL Returning to Long Beach Playhouse

Returning for its third incarnation at Long Beach Playhouse, this quick-paced, highly theatrical re-telling of Charles Dickens' classic tale of sin and redemption will delight the entire family. In nineteenth century England, the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future show tight-fisted miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, the poverty of his material wealth and the blessings that come with generosity. Can they convince him to change before it's too late?

Although the Playhouse is quickly turning A Christmas Carol into an annual tradition for its Mainstage Theatre, it is not taking the easy way out and simply remounting the same production year after year.

"We find ways to make each year unique. Clearly, Dickens gave the world a masterpiece with his novella. We honor his words and intentions but with slightly different staging and theatrical emphasis each time," said Andrew Vonderschmitt, the Playhouse Executive and Producing Artistic Director. "This year the new angle is giving Dickens himself a role in the storytelling."

The cast for LBP's A Christmas Carol is a blend of Playhouse veterans and those making their first appearances on its stage. Among the returning favorites are Bob Fetes and Evan Battle. Two of the younger Cratchits are graduates of the Playhouse's Summer Youth Conservatory.

Directing the cast is Jeff Brown. As always, the cast will be beautifully costumed by Donna Fritsche whose work always helps tell the story through her thoughtful designs.

"A Christmas Carol is the perfect way to greet the holiday season whether one celebrates Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza or simply enjoys a well-told story that reminds us that the way we live our lives means more than the material goods we collect along the way," said Vonderschmitt.

The show runs for two weekends only, beginning Saturday, December 13 and continuing through Sunday, December 21, 2014.
