The Capitol Steps to Return to Patchogue Theatre with New Material
Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) will present the Washington DC-based comedy troupe, The Capitol Steps, in a special performance based on songs from their new album "Orange Is the New Barack" on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.
The Capitol Steps have elevated political satire to an art form. Before "The Daily Show," "Full Frontal," and "The Colbert Report," this Washington DC-based comedy troupe gave audience laugh cramps with their bipartisan lampooning. The Capitol Steps began in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize their employers, and haven't let up since. If you've been keeping with the news, you know there's no shortage of material.
The troupe is coming back to Patchogue Theatre with a new show of musical and political comedy. The Capitol Steps will perform songs off their latest album, "Orange is the New Barack." Audiences will laugh with songs, such as "Hey Mr. Tangerine Man," "Oops, I Tweeted Again," "Don't Think Twice, It's Alt-Right" and "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Korea?"
It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or Democrat, a snowflake or a deplorable: neither side is safe from the group that puts the "MOCK" in Democracy!
Tickets for "The Capitol Steps: Orange is the New Barack" are now available online, by phone or at the box office. Ticket prices range from $40 to $70, plus ticket convenience charges. Patchogue Theatre first opened in 1923 as the largest theatre in Suffolk County. It still is, with the installation of 1,106 brand new seats during the 2016 renovation. Saved by Village of Patchogue in 1996 and lovingly restored it to its original grandeur, this beautiful and historic venue was in use 230 days with over 150,000 in attendance for its 2016-2017 season. PTPA is an independent community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that leases the building from the Village of Patchogue and covers all of the operating costs without any subsidies from the Village. PTPA's leadership consists of a volunteer board of directors and a small professional staff. Patchogue Theatre continues to thrive thanks to the hard work of over 90 volunteers as well as the businesses, funding agencies and individuals who support PTPA by contributing their time and resources.
