Patchogue Theatre's New Jazz Programming Continues This Summer Image

Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts is proud to present Grammy® winning producer, composer, keyboardist and vocalist Sergio Mendes on Sunday, July 1 at 8 p.m. and Grammy® nominated jazz pianist, vocalist and songwriter Judy Carmichael in "Swing Time!" on Saturday, July 14 at 8 p.m. These performances are part of the Jazz Inspired series that Judy Carmichael has curated in partnership with Patchogue Theatre.

Producer, composer, keyboardist and vocalist Sergio Mendes is one of the most internationally successful Brazilian artists of all time. His hit single, "Man Que Nada", is the first Portuguese language song to ever hit Billboard's U.S. Pop chart and Mendes' signature mix of bossa nova and samba and distinctive pop instrumentation have ultimately come to define Brazilian music. Sergio Mendes is a three-time Grammy® Award winner, with three additional Grammy® nominations, and has recorded more than 35 albums, with numerous gold and platinum albums among them. Mendes was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Real in Rio" from the hit animated film "Rio."

Pianist, vocalist and songwriter Judy Carmichael is considered one of the leading interpreters of classic swing and stride piano. The great Count Basie nicknamed Judy "Stride" in reference to her mastery of that early piano style popularized by Fats Waller and Art Tatum. Carmichael's "Swing Time!" concert on July 14 will celebrate the music of Gershwin, Benny Goodman and other swing era greats in an evening of gems from the Great American Songbook. After previewing her music last month at Patchogue Theatre's sister venue, The Loading Dock, Carmichael will return to Patchogue Theatre's main stage with special guest American jazz tenor saxophonist Harry Allen and her quartet.

Tickets for Sergio Mendes and Judy Carmichael in "Swing Time!" are now available online, by phone or at the box office. Ticket prices for Sergio Mendes range from $35 to $65 and ticket prices for "Swing Time" range from $25 to $55, plus applicable ticket fees. For more information on Patchogue Theatre's jazz programming, visit Patchogue Theatre's website at PatchogueTheatre.org/Events or call the box office at 631-207-1313.
