Bay Street Theatre Announces Free Community Event Reading Of A CHRISTMAS CAROL

By:

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce a free community event on Thursday, December 20 at 7 pm. A special one-night-only reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will be performed by a versatile and distinguished company of four actors, including Paul Hecht (numerous Broadway, film and TV credits), Harris Yulin (Bay Street's Frost Nixon, Ozarks), Amanda Kristin Nichols (Bay Street's The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Bay Street's The Great Gatsby) and John Kroft (Bay Street's The Great Gatsby).

The script, adapted by Paul Hecht and Will Pomerantz, Bay Street Theater's Associate Artistic Director (and Director of Bay Street's 2018 Mainstage hit production of EVITA), features live sound effects, and is based on the version that Dickens himself performed as he toured the world, electrifying audiences with his heart-warming tale of Scrooge, the man who goes from calling Christmas a "humbug," to embracing all that is good in the holiday and humanity.

"The interesting thing about casting for this," says Pomerantz, "is that each of the four actors will take a turn playing Scrooge as well as serving as narrator for one of the sections of the story. So, there is a sort of 'tag-team' Scrooging that goes on, which I think will be interesting and fun for the audience and the actors."

The performance will also include live music performed by Dan Koontz, as well as a sing-along with caroling and egg nog in the lobby following the performance!

This is a free event, but reservations are recommended, and donations will be accepted in support of Bay Street's community events. To reserve seating call the Box Office at 631-725-9500 or reserve online at baystreet.org. Tickets will be good until 10 minutes before show time, at which point all empty seats will be released to those waiting to attend. The Box Office is open Tuesday- Saturday 11 am - 5 pm or until showtime.

Bay Street Theater and Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is a year-round, not-for-profit professional theater and community cultural center which endeavors to innovate, educate, and entertain a diverse community through the practice of the performing arts.
