Bare Bones Theater Co. presents the Long Island premiere of Ripcord, a comedy by Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, for a ten-performance run over three weekends, from April 27 to May 13 at the Bare Bones Theater, 57 Main St., Northport. Performances are on April 27, 28, 29, May 4, 5, 6, 12 and 13 @ 8:00 p.m. with matinees on April 30 and May 7 @ 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are $25, $20 matinees, at www.barebonestheater.com or 800-838- 3006.

The play follows the power struggle of two seemingly harmless residents in a senior living facility who make a bet that quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship. When the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. An over-the-top competition ensues that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also some deeper, tender truths that each would rather keep hidden.

Director Lynn Antunovich comments that, "On the surface, Ripcord follows the classic comedy recipe in the vein of The Odd Couple-what happens when two very different personalities are forced to co-exist. But the similarities stop there. It's the differences that drew me to the play. This plot takes the old format and throws it on its ear." I think our audiences are going to see something they've never quite seen from Bare Bones Theater before, and I am excited to bring this to our patrons." The Associate Director is Lee Kurfist.

Smithtown native Judy Rovinsky McCormick is the cantankerous Abby, who is forced to share her quarters with newly arrived Marilyn (Wantagh resident Lisa Meckes). The cast includes Long island actors Karen Ferrara, Tim Dolan, Steven Clark, and Scott McIntyre).

Ms. Antunovich is the Artistic Director of the not-for-profit Bare Bones Theater Company, which offers acting classes, showcases and four to five full-length productions annually. She began her career as an actor, appearing both Off-Broadway and regionally, and on camera in a variety of independent films and commercials. She has been directing and teaching acting at Bare Bones since 2011.
