THROWBACK SIZZLING JAM Brings R&B and Hip Hop Icons to Orleans Arena

By:

R&B and hip hop legends of the 1990's will bring their top hits to the fourth-annual "Throwback Sizzling Jam" at the Orleans Arena on Saturday, July 15.

The 1990's marked the golden age of R&B music and Oakland, Calif.'s Tony! Toni! Toné! dominated the music scene with soulful hits "It Never Rains (In Southern California)," "Anniversary" and "Lay Your Head on My Pillow." The band's popularity earned them a certified double-Platinum album, "Sons of Soul." The R&B group's current lineup includes Dwayne Wiggins, Timothy Christian Riley and Amar Khalil.

Formed in Baltimore, Md., R&B supergroup Dru Hill is best known for their #1 singles "How Deep Is Your Love," "In My Bed" and "Never Make a Promise." Throughout the group's career, they recorded seven Top-40 hits and released four albums, including "Dru Hill," "Enter the Dru," "Dru World Order" and "InDRUpendence Day." Dru Hill features original members Larry "Jazz" Anthony, Mark "Sisqó" Andrews, Tamir "Nokio" Ruffin and newest member Antwuan "Tao" Simpson.

Silk hails from Atlanta, Ga., and won over fans with their hit songs "If You (Lovin Me)," "Girl U For Me" and "Happy Days." In 1993, Silk released their debut album "Lose Control" with their #1 single "Freak Me," which went double-Platinum. The group continued to produce top-100 hits, including "Hooked On You," "Meeting in My Bedroom" and "Don't Rush." Members include Tim "Timzo" Cameron, Jimmy Gates, Gary "Big G" Glenn, Jonathen "John-John" Rasboro and Gary "Lil G" Jenkins.

Throwback Sizzling Jam also includes performances by Total, H-Town and hip hop powerhouse The Alumni featuring Dana Dane, Chubb Rock, Kwame', Moni Love, and Special Ed.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Andern Educational Research, Inc. (AER) and its Greater Educational Milestones (GEMs) program. AER is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing underserved students with educational opportunities and a pathway to college. GEMs places academically gifted middle school students in private high schools and support them through mentorship and scholarships.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $40 plus tax and fees, and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000; online at www.orleanscasino.com; or in-person at gift shops inside The Orleans, Suncoast, Gold Coast and Sam's Town.
