Learn to fight and dress authentically like a Viking in a free workshop set for Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at Lorenzi Park.

Swords and shields will be provided along with safety lessons in performing stage combat by a former member of Wolves of Odin, an authentic Viking reenactment group, and of Vikings North America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Viking authenticity, reenactment and living history, and a current member of the Vegas Viking lodge of the Sons of Norway.

"The Vegas Vikings often appear at community events with our Viking ship and a band of Vikings, which we want to grow into a larger, more imposing force," said Erik Pappa, president of the lodge. "Anyone wanting to learn how to fight and dress like a Viking while having fun should join us."

Advance registration is not required. Attendees should wear appropriate footwear and long pants and long sleeves. The training event will be held at the southwest area of Lorenzi Park, on the southeast side of the lake, just east of the footbridge that stretches across the lake.

The Vegas Viking Lodge is a non-profit organization formed in May 1992 to promote Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage through a variety of special events featuring traditional and contemporary programs.

The Vegas Viking lodge ( www.vegasviking.com ) was organized in May 1992 and has been involved in a wide variety of special events featuring traditional and contemporary programs having a Norwegian-American flavor ever since. As part of the Sons of Norway, it is a fraternal benefit and cultural society dedicated to preserving Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage in North America and strengthening the ties between North America and modern Norway. Vegas Viking also helps local charities through donations. The lodge may be found on Facebook and Twitter @VegasVikingGang!
