Faith Evans is an American Hip-Hop singer-songwriter, record producer, actress and author. Born in Coral Gables, Florida and raised in Newark, New Jersey, she began singing at church at the age two. Evans later began her career in the music business in 1993 as a backing vocalist for Al B. Sure, in Los Angeles, California. She was than noticed by musician Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and became the first female artist to be signed to Bad Boy Entertainment label in 1994. Between the years 1995 and 2001, Evans released three platinum-certified studio albums titled: Faith (94'), Keep the Faith (98'), and Faithfully (01'). A 1997 tribute single to the late "Notorious B.I.G." entitled "I'll Be Missing You," became her biggest-selling hit to date, which in 1998 won her a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a duo or group. In 2003, she ended her relationship with Bad Boy Entertainment to contract with Capitol Records. At Capitol Records she became the first contemporary R&B artist, and released her fourth studio album The First Lady in 2005- becoming Evans' best-charting album to date.
Other than her recording career, Evans is known as the widow of New York rapper "The Notorious B.I.G.", and is also an actress and writer. She made her big screen debut in 2000 in the musical drama Turn It Up.
