Cockroach Theatre Company (CTC) continues the 2015-2016 Season with playwright George Brant's powerful, one-woman play, GROUNDED, at its downtown home -- Art Square Theatre. Directed by Andrew Paul (Artistic Director of Pittsburgh's Kinetic Theatre), GROUNDED will feature Equity Actress Mindy Woodhead, who most recently graced the Cockroach stage in last season's blockbuster collaboration with Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT) -- Venus in Fur.

This gripping play about a female fighter pilot stationed in Nevada is finally being staged in the place that inspired it. George Brant's one-woman play tells the story of a nameless soldier who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant, leading her to be reassigned to operating a remote-piloted aircraft (drone) from Creech AFB, outside of Las Vegas. By day, she tracks an elusive target overseas. By night, she cares for her baby. All the while, she grapples with what it means to nurture a new life at home while hunting other lives abroad.

"While GROUNDED does explore the moral and ethical questions of remote warfare, the play's close proximity to our community allows the opportunity for a more intimate conversation," says Artistic Director Levi Fackrell. "These servicemen and women in the drone program aren't living a typical soldier's life in a far off place that can remain abstract to us. They're our neighbors, and we're asking them to inhabit very difficult worlds and situations, separately and simultaneously. It's a unique dialogue that we hope to spark."

Winner of 2012 Smith Prize and named a Top 10 London Play of 2013 by both the Guardian and the London Evening Standard, Brant's script has garnered praise far and wide with numerous productions including an Off Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and starring Anne Hathaway.

"This season showcases many of the most current, interesting plays in contemporary theatre," says Fackrell. "GROUNDED is absolutely that."

GROUNDED opens tonight, November 19th and will run Thursday-Saturday nights at 8PM and Sunday matinees at 2PM through December 13th; however the production will be dark Nov. 26-29th for Thanksgiving weekend and Dec. 4th during downtown's First Friday event. Tickets are $20 for General Admission and $16 for students, over 55, and military. Cockroach Theatre Company performs at Art Square Theatre located at 1025 S. First St. #110 in Downtown's 18b Arts District. Tickets can be purchased online at www.cockroachtheatre.com or at the door beginning one hour prior to curtain.
