Baseballs were bouncing and jazz was jumping in the 1930’s and 40’s in Kansas City.  Step back to the Glory Days at 18th and Vine when every baseball player wanted to play bass and every bass player wanted to play ball!  This musical is produced to honor the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

The Monarchs of KC,  written by TYA Artistic Director Gene Mackey, raises the ghosts of great baseball players of the Negro Leagues to play one last great contest to conquer the supposed supremacy of the all-white Major Leagues.  An all-star dream team, managed by Rube Foster, includes John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil, Leroy Satchel” Page, James “Cool Papa” Bell, Wilbur “Bullet” Rogan, Josh Gibson, Jackie Robinson, and Toni Stone, a female player who held her own in the largely male world of professional baseball.   Kansas City favorites, Danny Cox and Lonnie McFadden head the cast.  Other cast members include: Tiffany Sipple, Evan Lovelace, and Rece Basey.  Jacqee Gafford directs.

The Monarchs of KC is suitable for anyone interested in Negro League history and all ages from first grade on up.   This production meets Missouri, Kansas and National Educational standards.
