Individual tickets to all events in the Lied Center for Performing Arts 20th anniversary season will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 17.

Orders can be placed at the Lied Center box office window, online at www.liedcenter.org, over the phone at (402) 472-4747 or toll free at (800) 432-3231, or by fax.

Tickets sales are up 10 percent from last year because of early support and community interest in several shows, such as legendary jazz and classical trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, who will kick off the Lied's season Oct. 7.

The Lied Center's 20th anniversary season features more big-name artists in one season than Lincoln has seen in many years. Included in the season are international superstars Marsalis (jazz trumpet) with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Yo-Yo Ma (cello).

In addition to these two multi-Grammy award-winning artists, the season is packed with other Grammy winners, including pianist George Winston, world music rockers Los Lobos, tango pianist Pablo Ziegler and America's favorite cowboys, Riders in the Sky. The big show of the year will be the direct-from-Broadway production of "South Pacific." This production received seven Tony awards last year including Best Musical Revival. The Lied Center is the exclusive Nebraska presenter for this special production.

With the outstanding lineup on the bill this year, seats have been filling rapidly, aided in part by an average ticket price of $35, down 8 percent from 2008-09.

"If you're interested in any of the great shows coming this year, I highly recommend purchasing tickets this month before shows potentially sell out," said Bill Stephan, interim executive director of the Lied. "I'm very encouraged by the number of people who have chosen to purchase season tickets this year and hope more people take advantage of the 20 percent discount available on season tickets."

As always, students and youth under age 18 get tickets 50 percent off, while University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty and staff receive 10 percent off two tickets to Lied events.
Members of the Friends of Lied are able to order individual tickets to all 2009-10 events before Aug 17. See Friends of Lied section at www.liedcenter.org for details.

In addition, season tickets can still be purchased throughout the 2009-10 season. Buy four to seven events and save 10 percent, or buy eight or more events and save 20 percent on your order. UNL faculty and staff have the option to have the cost deducted directly from their paychecks until Sept. 1. Payroll deduction is not available for use on individual tickets.
For additional information, contact the Lied Center ticket office or visit www.liedcenter.org. The Lied Center for Performing Arts is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus at 301 N. 12th St.

The Lied Center's 20th anniversary season is sponsored by Friends of Lied and Union Bank and Trust Co. Friends of Lied and Union Bank have pledged record-breaking levels of commitment to the arts for the community. In addition to helping bring in artists like Marsalis and Yo-Yo Ma, the season sponsors help make possible the Lied's arts outreach program, AdventureLIED.
"We cannot express our gratitude enough to Friends of Lied and Union Bank," Stephan said. "Due to their support, we are able to offer this stellar season, as ticket sales cover only a fraction of the cost of presenting world-class performing arts programs."

The Nebraska Arts Council, a state agency, has supported the programs of this organization through its matching grants program funded by the Nebraska legislature; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. Lied Center programming is supported by Friends of Lied and grants from Association of Performing Arts Presenters; National Endowment for the Arts; Mid-America Arts Alliance; Nebraska Arts Council; New England Foundation for the Arts; and Lincoln Arts Council. All events in the Lied Center are made possible entirely or in part by the Lied Performance Fund, which has been established in memory of Ernst F. Lied and his parents, Ernst M. and Ida K. Lied.
