Marilyn Maye to Perform with Kansas City Symphony this Fall

By:

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Monday for Kansas City's own musical icon Marilyn Maye and her first appearance with the Kansas City Symphony this fall.

Kansas-born Maye is known for her show-stopping renditions of the American Songbook, such as "Luck Be a Lady," "Over the Rainbow," "Put on a Happy Face" and many more. While the jazz and cabaret singer has performed countless times over the years in the city, this will be Maye's first performance with the Kansas City Symphony in Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

Maye performs at 7 p.m., Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets range $35-$75 and can be purchased at kcsymphony.org or by calling the Kansas City Symphony Box Office at (816) 471-0400.

Throughout her career, Maye has worked with the best talents in the music business. She also was one of Johnny Carson's favorite and most frequent guests, performing on "The Tonight Show" for a total of 76 times.

The veteran singer, who is now in her mid-80s, has not let age slow her down. In fact, Maye is as busy as ever these days, singing in the nation's top nightclubs and performing alongside major orchestras. It's no surprise that Maye continues to rake in accolades and major cabaret awards in recent years. This fall, Kansas City Symphony concertgoers will have the chance to see and hear firsthand what New York Times reviewer, Stephen Holden, admired of Maye - she "dives into jazz and swings with a vocal stamina remarkable for a performer of any age."
