Position Summary

Barter Theatre seeks a (stage carp) to be a part of the backstage crew in Barter Theatre’s Smith Theatre. The Smith Stage Carpenter reports to the technical director and leads the rep crew in changing over the scenery from one show to another. This is a seven-week seasonal contract lasting from 7/6/26 - 8/23/26. 

Responsibilities

• Leading the rep crew in changing over the scenery between 3 productions in rep

• Assist with backstage run crew duties including wardrobe quick changes

• Ensuring rep happens safely and within the time parameters

• Working with scene shop staff on load-ins & strikes

• Driving a 24-foot box truck as part of change overs

• Other duties as assigned

Qualification & Experience 

• Bachelor's degree in technical theater (preferred)

• Backstage experience (+3 years)

• Problem solving & time management skills

• Experience with theatrical rigging

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in tight and dark backstage spaces

• Familiar & able to work with power tools safely

• Valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles.
