The Westside Theatre (an Off-Broadway commercial venue) seeks applicants for the position of Operations Manager. Ideal candidates will have at least five years of professional experience in theatre management, exhibit a professional and personable demeanor, possess an attention to detail, and demonstrate a proactive attitude toward problem solving. This is a full-time, in-person position.



The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager, and is responsible for maintaining a high standard in the overall appearance and operation of a prominent commercial Off-Broadway venue. Originally constructed as a church in 1889, the Westside Theatre is comprised of two venues, the Upstairs Theatre (270 seats) and the Downstairs Theatre (249 seats). The Operations Manager supervises the Building Manager and House Management staff, and provides administrative support to the General Manager.



Duties and Responsibilities

-Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the building and its use as a theatre, the upkeep of its systems, and the safety and comfort of workers and patrons within

-Maintain the business’s compliance with applicable New York City, New York State, and Federal codes and regulations, including, but not limited to: ADA, NYC Building, Fire, and Health codes, and State Liquor Authority statutes

-Respond to urgent building needs and emergencies, such as HVAC, fire alarm, or plumbing issues

-Procure, install, and maintain office technology and communication systems, equipment, and supplies

-Negotiate and maintain agreements with contractors and vendors for utilities, equipment, repairs, inspections, and supplies

-Track accounts receivables and manage accounts payable, keeping detailed invoice records

-Serve as the primary source of information concerning venue specifications, operational policies, access, and scheduling, managing all public messaging through the website, voicemail tree, and general email inbox

-Book and coordinate short term rentals such as readings, rehearsals, showcases, television/film shoots, and other events

-Hire, train, and supervise the Building Manager and House Management staff

-Assist General Manager with basic HR functions, ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal employment policy changes

-Provide administrative support, completing weekly production settlements, payroll preparation, and other financial transaction records as designated by General Manager

-Perform other related duties, as needed or assigned, including covering essential tasks of General Manager, Building Manager, or House Management during vacation or other absences



Qualifications & Skills

-BA degree or equivalent, with a minimum of five years professional experience in the relevant area(s) of theatre management (i.e. house management, general management, production management, company management, stage management, etc.)

-Strong background in technical theatre

-A general knowledge of mechanics and building systems

-Strong proficiency in IT systems, ethernet and wireless networks, VOIP telephones, Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain such systems

-Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy

-Experience with basic accounting principles

-The ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs and ladders, and perform basic manual labor

This is a full-time, exempt position, with an annual salary of $68,900. Other benefits include group health insurance, paid vacation, and a 401(k) plan after one year of service. Evening and weekend hours may be required, including some holidays.
