Director of Production Playwrights Horizons is an award winning off-Broadway writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.
Playwrights Horizons is seeking an Associate Production Manager who will provide the 7 member production team support with putting together approximately 6 shows each season. This position will play a key role in providing administrative and management support across all Production Department activities. The ideal candidate will be detail-orientated and comfortable with interacting with directors, designers, freelance crew and staff at all levels of the organization. This role is a full time exempt position. Essential responsibilities
Production Management Support
Support the Director of Production in managing the production process for each assigned project, ensuring the creative and technical teams for each show are supported consistently throughout the process
Facilitate the flow of information and alignment of activity between the theaters, rehearsal rooms, and among the Production team and crew
Collaborate with and assist members of the Production department as needed
Provide coverage for the Director of Production, as needed
Serve as Production Manager for the PHTS Mainstage Productions Department Support
Maintain department calendars and schedule internal and external meetings, organize and create the agenda for meetings as needed
Manage Department Expense Tracking including processing invoices, petty cash and credit cards for the production department; provide administrative support to Production team members as needed
Maintain show and department expense tracking documents; oversee purchasing of seasonal supplies and special materials
Maintain vendor database and source new suppliers as needed
Manage and maintain departmental equipment inventories and venue documentation in collaboration with the crew heads
Maintain inventory of production office supplies
Organize and share show Google Drive folders and manage digital document archives
Manage open flame and haze permitting with the FDNY and AEA
Enter and process payroll on a weekly basis ; serve as the liaison between the Payroll team and production department
Onboard new over-hire employees, ensuring the department’s compliance with timekeeping and other organization-wide practices Rentals
Manage the production-related elements for outside rentals of the theater and rehearsal spaces, including staffing needs
Partner with the General Management department and Downtown Rentals Team to ensure consistent and equitable practices for rentals in both spaces
Serve as the primary point of contact for production elements of rentals; provide communication support as needed
Participate in tours of building for potential renters as needed Qualifications
Knowledge of production management and safety best practices
Ability to exercise a high degree of autonomy and discretion, comfortable with providing authority in the theater
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal communications skills and ability to develop rapport with creatives, artists, and other stakeholders
Proficiency with G Suite; Google Docs and Sheets
Writing, editing, and basic design skills
Able to work nights and some weekends Compensation & Benefits $66,300 per year, commensurate with experience Playwrights Horizons offers a comprehensive benefits package including 10 days (two weeks) of vacation, four personal days, and 10 sick days. Employees have access to individual medical, dental, and vision coverage, with various plan options available through Oxford Health Plans. Playwrights Horizons partially subsidizes health and dental insurance and provides vision insurance at no charge to employees.
