Spring 2024 Production: Staff Application (Director, Choreographer, Tech Director, Stage Manager) - Georgetown Gilbert & Sullivan Society

LISTING INFORMATION

The Georgetown Gilbert & Sullivan Society (GGSS) is hiring a Director, Choreographer, Technical Director, and Stage Manager ("the Team") for its Spring 2024 musical. Information about acting and other technical and creative roles will be released later on. This application must be submitted by October 22, 2023 at 5:00 pm in order to be considered. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis.

GGSS is Georgetown University Law Center's theatre group, run by and for law students. The group benefits from strong involvement of Georgetown Law alumni, DMV-area community members, and even the occasional professor. Individuals of all talent levels are involved, from ex-union cardholders to first-time performers; GGSS welcomes and includes everyone!



The projected timeline for the Spring 2024 musical is as follows:

September - December 2023: Production & Technical Planning

Week of 01/15/2024: Auditions & Callbacks

01/22/2024 - 03/21/2024: Rehearsals

03/22/2024 - 03/25/2024: Load-in & Technical Rehearsals

03/26/2024 - 03/27/2024: Dress Rehearsals

03/28/2024 - 03/30/2024: Performances

03/31/2024: Load-out

The musical will be performed in Hart Auditorium at Georgetown University Law Center (600 NJ Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001). Auditions and rehearsals will take place on campus at GULC. All dates and locations are subject to change pursuant to Law Center administration.



The GGSS Board will consider proposals from directors for the following four musicals (in alphabetical order):

Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Mamma Mia

Pippin

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella

RESPONSIBILITIES & COMPENSATION



Director

The director is required to attend auditions and callbacks, at least four rehearsals per week, plus every technical and dress rehearsal. The director is responsible for leading a full rehearsal process culminating with a finished creative product that they can then hand over to the Stage Manager for technical and dress rehearsals. The director will be paid a stipend of $2,200. All director applicants must submit a pitch proposal for at least one of the four musical options in order to be considered.



Choreographer

The choreographer is required to attend auditions and callbacks, up to three rehearsals per week, plus every technical and dress rehearsal. The choreographer is responsible for choreographing every number in the musical, teaching that choreography to the actors, and reviewing it with them throughout the rehearsal process. The choreographer will be paid a stipend of $800.



Technical Director

The technical director is required to attend all technical "build days," plus all technical and dress rehearsals. The technical director is responsible for leading the technical teams, including set-building, paint, lights, sound, and other related teams. They are responsible for creating a tech schedule at the beginning of the rehearsal process and ensuring that the show operates within the budget proscribed by the GGSS Board. They will also the load-in and load-out processes. This is a volunteer position.



Stage Manager

The stage manager is required to attend auditions and callbacks, every rehearsal, every technical and dress rehearsal, and each performance. The stage manager is responsible for all logistics related to the creative process. They create and send out the rehearsal schedules each week and serve as the communicative link between the creative team and the cast. The stage manager will take blocking notes, create rehearsal reports, set up and reset all rehearsal rooms, and ultimately call all the light/sound cues during the performances. They can only miss a rehearsal if covered by an approved assistant stage manager. The stage manager will be paid a stipend of $1,500.



*To receive their stipend, the person in each paid position must sign a contract with Georgetown University Law Center.
Salary: $800 - $2,200
